Social media user claims to find King of Kentucky bourbon at Cosco. Why is it so rare?

Reddit has been abuzz with a rumor that a shopper found a bottle of King of Kentucky bourbon on the shelves at Costco in California.

We haven’t been able to confirm if the post is true, but the Reddit user claimed to have purchased the rare spirit for $285. A message sent to Costco asking if it was being sold at Costco hasn’t yet been returned.

For this year’s iteration, Master Distiller Chris Morris chose two lots of barrels to set aside for the limited-release product from 2007. The 2024 expression is a 16-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, featuring a premium embossed label with a stamp border and details.

Look for rich, chocolate-covered coconut, vanilla bean and caramel coat a layer of caramelized fruit, robust oak, and a hint of malt on the nose and a taste of dark chocolate, old oak, sweet coconut, malt and rich vanilla cover wood spice.

Approximately 5,100 bottles were produced, at 130.4 proof.

The King of Kentucky brand is part of the Brown-Forman Corporation, which recently announced the closure of its cooperage.

Where to get King of Kentucky bourbon. How much is it?

It’s not as easy to find as a bottle of Jack Daniels, nor is it as cheap. Listings for different years of King of Kentucky range in price, but some online listings show bottles from $1,500 to $8,000.

The Louisville cooperage, where Brown-Forman makes it barrels, will be closed no later than April 25. The company also announced it will lay off approximately 12% of its global workforce and “restructure” its executive leadership team.
