Just as Indianapolis temperatures reached the freezing point for the first time in nine days Sunday, a fast-moving storm could bring snow showers to Central Indiana later tonight and will usher in a few days of frigid weather.
Light snow could mix with freezing drizzle Sunday evening through early Monday across a broad swath of Central Indiana counties, especially north of Marion County, according to the National Weather Service.
In the following days, temperatures will plummet, the NWS forecasts. On Tuesday, up to an inch of snow could fall across Central and Southern Indiana. Subzero lows with wind chills as low as -15 degrees Fahrenheit are expected overnight Monday through Wednesday, with daily highs around 20 degrees.

Indianapolis has recorded 15.7 inches of snow so far this winter, according to the NWS, the bulk of which came in a major snowstorm Jan. 5-6. Another 3.5 inches fell Friday and early Saturday.
The highest snowfall total across the state is along the Ohio River in southeastern Indiana, where 22.4 inches have fallen, according to the NWS. In South Bend, where lake effect snow boosts average snowfall to 64.5 inches, only 14.8 inches have fallen so far this winter.
The NWS said Indianapolis temperatures had reached 32 degrees for the first time in 222 hours Sunday. That’s more than nine days.
But forecasters also warned another potent winter storm could bring more snow next weekend and subzero temperatures early next week. Details are vague but will take shape later this week, the NWS says.
