Suspected DUI crash claims life of 65-year-old bicyclist in Aberdeen

A car hit and killed a bicycle rider on Thursday night in Aberdeen.

Preliminary crash information, according to police reports, indicates the driver of a 2005 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on Second Avenue NE near North Lincoln Street at 9:45 p.m. Dec. 26 when he struck a bicyclist on the shoulder of the road.

The 65-year-old cyclist died from his injuries, according to police reports. The 45-year-old male driver of the Ford pickup was charged with DUI and possession of marijuana, the report states.

Both men were from Aberdeen. The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
