ELKHART — A 48-year-old Elkhart man was arrested after police responded to a call about a battery victim knocking on doors and screaming for help.
An officer responded at 1:46 a.m. Saturday to the apartments at 220 W. Jackson St, the Elkhart Police Department said. The officer made contact with the female victim as well as a male victim who reported that a known subject had attacked them at a residence in the 300 block of North 2nd Street.
Officers obtained an arrest warrant for the subject and learned that he also had an unrelated felony warrant. The Elkhart County Regional SWAT team was activated since the male suspect refused to leave the residence, police said.
At 8:09 a.m., the SWAT team assisted in executing the arrest warrant at the 2nd Street address. After breaching the home, police arrested the man without further incident. After medical clearance, he was transported to the Elkhart County Jail. No injuries were reported. Police also seized items from the home pursuant to a search warrant.
Games Birkhead was booked into jail on his outstanding warrant as well as on preliminary charges associated with this incident. The case will be forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges, police said.
