Teenager arrested after car chase with Monroe police

MONROE A 15-year-old boy was arrested after a car chase with Monroe police officers and Monroe County deputies, according to a release.

On Sunday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m., lieutenant Jeffrey Ellington attempted a traffic stop on East Third Street, east of South Monroe Street, but the driver quickly fled, accelerating to over 60 mph. The initial pursuit was immediately terminated, but the City of Monroe Public Safety Department restarted the pursuit on Winchester Street. Deputy Jacob Llewellyn joined the pursuit on northbound I-75 from North Dixie Highway.

The vehicle fled into Frenchtown Township, but returned to the City of Monroe. The driver was arrested after pulling into a private driveway on Navarre Street. Nobody was injured and no property damage was sustained during the chase.

The driver was lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center for charges related to fleeing and eluding police. A 13-year-old passenger was also located in the vehicle and was released to family.
