Texas police arrest Oklahoma man in 1991 child abduction, assault cold case

An Ardmore man has been arrested in connection with a decades-old Texas child abduction case.

The 64-year-old suspect, who is also accused of aggravated sexual assault in the 1991 abduction of an 8-year-old child, was arrested on Dec. 19. The Oklahoman is not naming him because he has not yet been formally charged.

The Plano Police Department said the man has also been linked to a similar case in Dallas from 1999, and there might be more victims.

At about 6 p.m. on Aug. 15, 1991, in the 1700 block of Lake Hill Lane in Plano, two children were walking to a neighborhood pool when an unidentified male abducted and sexually assaulted one of the children, police said in a news release.

The injured child was found five hours later in Garland, Texas.

Police said evidence and investigative leads against the suspect culminated last year. He is detained with a pending bond, police said. Police worked with Texas Rangers on the decades-long case.

The Plano Police Department issued the following statement:

“After more than 30 years, this breakthrough would not have been possible without the assistance of the surviving victims, the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, the Texas Rangers, Bode Technology, the Dallas Police Department, Collin County District Attorney’s Office, Plano Detective A. Benzick, and Plano Police Department Crime Analyst A. Desmond.”
