The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has announced closures for eight parks and campgrounds for construction work expected to last through the winter and across parts of the new year.
The partial or entire closures include popular sites such as Silver Falls, Fort Stevens, Milo McIver and Bullards Beach. The closures allows construction projects such as paving, sewer replacement and new electric lines to move forward.
Money for the projects came from $50 million in general obligation bonds approved by the 2021 Oregon Legislature and includes work on eight state parks and campgrounds.
Eight state parks will be closed entirely or partly in 2025 for construction projects.
These are the construction closures and partial closures (dates subject to change):
Milo McIver campground closed until March 31
The campground at Milo McIver campground was closed earlier this year and it’s expected to remain shuttered through March 31. The work includes refurbishing a restroom building and repaving roads. The campground, group camps and hiker/biker area are closed. The day-use areas remain open.
Silver Falls State Park campgrounds (except cabins 1-10) are closed through June 30, to allow crews to replace the B-Loop restroom and repave A Loop. All other park facilities will remain open, including all trails, trailheads, day-use areas and the South Falls Lodge. Work will begin in 2025 adding a new campground and visitor center.
Bullards Beach campground closed until March 17
Bullards Beach campground (except the horse camp) is closed through March 17, for upgrades to the main sewer line and lift station to accommodate increased demand and reduce service disruptions. All campsites, overnight restroom facilities, yurts, meeting hall and dump station will be closed. The day-use area will remain open with limited disruptions.
Nehalem Bay State Park is closed through July 1, including the campground and day-use areas, to install new water and electrical lines, add restroom and shower buildings, renovate nine campsites to improve accessibility and repave and add traffic calming improvements to the park entry road.
Fort Stevens campgrounds closed until Dec. 31, 2025
Fort Stevens campground loops L, M, N, O and C, as well as cabins and yurts and the South Lake restroom, are closed through 2025 for wastewater, water system and electrical upgrades, paving work and a new restroom building. All other campsites and day-use areas will remain open. The historic Guardhouse will be a part of the work and include roof restoration, exterior cleaning and repair and upgrades to basic utilities.
Cape Lookout State Park will undergo a construction closure in the summer of 2025, but will remain open until then. The campground and day-use area will be closed during construction, anticipated from summer or fall of 2025 and into spring or summer 2026.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 20, reservable campsites in A, B, C and D loops, and deluxe cabins and yurts, can be reserved online for stays from March 1 through May 31, 2025.
The Clyde Holliday State Recreation Area will be closed from March 2025 to November 2025 due to construction.
Collier Memorial State Park campground and dump station will be closed all of 2025 to accommodate paving and upgrades within the campground. Day-use appears to remain open.
