Town of Flora receives funding for wastewater treatment update

The Town of Flora in Carroll County will use a $7,282,000 loan and a $1,000,000 grant to update and rehabilitate the town’s wastewater treatment plant and collection system.

The funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, announced by Rural Development Indiana Acting State Director Curtis Johnson, is part of $76,571,000 in investments in Hoosier rural communities to expand access to a reliable electric grid, safe drinking water and good-paying jobs.

“These projects are about more than just infrastructure; they’re about empowering our communities from the ground up,” Johnson stated. “By investing in sustainable technologies and vital resources, we are fostering a brighter future for Indiana’s rural areas, making them more resilient and attractive for families and businesses alike.”

The Town of Flora has been on a sewer ban imposed by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) since 1974. A sewer ban prohibits new sewers from connecting to the Utility.

The project’s primary purpose is to improve the wastewater utility system so it will comply with today’s health and sanitary standards. This will allow the town to attract new residents and new businesses.
