The Tallahassee Police Department has publicly announced its first official homicide investigation of the new year.
In an overnight post on X and Facebook, TPD issued an incident alert about a murder in the 2500 block of West Tennessee Street.
“At approximately 2:20 am.., a call was received reference an adult male who was unresponsive. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased,” TPD wrote in the online incident alert posted at 4:25 a.m. Sunday.
A TPD watch commander said the case is currently classified as a “death investigation.” Such investigations don’t always end up being homicides and can involve natural causes, suicide or accidental deaths.
The watch commander was unable to provide any other details, including the circumstances of the case, the cause of death, the exact location or any update on potential suspects.
“It’s still a very open investigation,” she said.
TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit are continuing to investigate.
Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, but did not speak with an officer on scene, to call 850-891-4200. They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS
On Friday, the Tallahassee Democrat reported that two men were arrested Thursday in connection to a murder investigation, but court records are marked confidential and the Tallahassee Police Department isn’t answering questions about the case – including on whether the murder happened earlier this month.
A probable cause and arrest affidavit were not available through the Clerk of Courts’ website fo that case. The documents were marked online as “confidential” and were only available to attorneys of record and certain agencies. TPD spokesperson Damon Miller said the documents were hidden to prevent any interference with the investigation. Miller couldn’t “confirm or deny” if the murder happened this year.
