Tuscaloosa police arrest suspect in shooting near gas station

A 29-year-old Tuscaloosa man has been arrested and charged in connection to a Tuesday shooting that left another man injured at a gas station.

Jermaine Lockett was charged with attempted murder, tampering with physical evidence and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, said Capt. Marty Sellers of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. Lockett was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, with a bond to be set later by a judge.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to a gas station in the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. after a shooting was reported. Officers found another 29-year-old man who had been shot multiple times.

The victim was treated for his injuries and is now in stable condition, Sellers said.

Lockett was later indentified as the suspect and taken into custody. Following an investigation, Lockett was arrested and charged.

Sellers said Lockett and the victim had issues in the past and those disagreements are believed to have been linked to the shooting.
