Two people have been hospitalized after a morning blaze at a multi-family home in Wakefield.
According to the Wakefield Fire Department, crews responded to a home on Water Street for reports of an explosion around 8:44 a.m. The home contains six units.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire coming from the third floor of the six-family dwelling and struck a second alarm at approximately 8:47 a.m. Smoke alarms were sounding when first responders arrived.
Wakefield firefighters and police officers rescued two adult occupants from the home’s third floor.
Four other people were able to escape and a total of six people were displaced.
A woman was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious injuries. A male resident with serious injuries to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
