Up to a foot of snow, low wind chill: Erie County’s weather forecast for the week ahead

The start of a new week could mean the start of another round of snowfall for Erie County, with some bitter cold tossed in for good measure.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland forecast is for as much as a foot of snow in some areas of the county Monday and Tuesday, low temperatures in the teens Monday through Wednesday and a wind-chill around zero at least one night.

Conditions could be even snowier and colder in and around Chautauqua County, New York, where the weather service in Buffalo has instituted a lake-effect snow warning from 1 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Thursday. Crawford and Warren counties also will experience low temperatures, possibly in the single digits.

Erie County weather forecast: Snow on the way

Sunday’s forecast for Erie calls for a high around 32 and a low near 29. There is a minor chance of light snow late Sunday.

An inch to 2 inches of snow is possible Monday, when the high will be around 32. Winds will be from the west at 15-20 mph.

The low will plunge to around 14 Monday night, with wind-chill values as low as zero. Winds will be from the west at 14-16 mph, but gusting as high as 29 mph. An inch to 2 inches of new snow is possible.

Tuesday projects as the snowiest day in the near-term forecast, with 3 inches to 5 inches of new snow possible. The high will be around 24. Winds will be from the west at around 16 mph, gusting as high as 29 mph.

Additional snow showers are likely Tuesday night, possibly accumulating an additional inch to 3 inches. The low will be around 19.

Snow showers are likely Wednesday, according to the weather service, chiefly before 1 p.m. The high will be around 24. More snow showers are possible at night, mainly ending by 1 a.m. Thursday. The low will be around 13.

Temperatures start to improve Thursday, when the high will be near 28 and the low around 22.

Crawford County weather forecast: Bundle up

The weather service in Cleveland forecasts the possibility of 2 inches to 5 inches of snow Tuesday and Tuesday night in Meadville, but it’s the low temperatures to watch.

Monday night’s low will be around 10, but wind-chill values could be closer to minus 4 degrees. Tuesday’s high will be around 19 and the low near 12. Wednesday’s low will be around 9 and Thursday’s near 18.

Lows in Warren County will be around 9 Monday night, 12 Tuesday, 10 Wednesday and 16 Thursday, according to the forecast from the weather service in State College.

Chautauqua County forecast: Lake-effect snow warning

The weather service in Buffalo forecast calls for heavy lake-effect snow late Monday afternoon through Thursday morning. Total accumulations of 8 inches to 16 inches are possible where the lake snows persist. Snow is expected to fall in relatively narrow bands, the weather service reported. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Travel could become difficult, especially during the Monday night and Tuesday morning commutes.

Low temperatures will be around 10 Monday and Wednesday, 13 Tuesday and 15 Thursday. West winds and wind gusts will drive down the wind chill.
