Dec. 20—SUNBURY — A 10-year-old Sunbury boy was located at a nearby home a few hours after he went missing late Thursday night.
Police Chief Travis Bremigen said Ethan Valentine left a home on 11th Street wearing no shoes, a green hat, black pants with white stripes and a dark gray sweatshirt. He was located around 3 a.m. Friday, police said.
Sunbury police were assisted by several Valley police departments, along with a K-9 Unit, state police, and a police drone in a search of the Hill section in Sunbury.
State police used a helicopter, along with the help of the Middleburg and Overlook Fire Departments who deployed a drone over the Hill Section until about 3 a.m. when Bremigen received a call from Sunbury officer Toby Blank that the boy was inside a home after knocking on a door near 11th Street.
The boy was treated by the Americus Hose Co., and Bremigen said the boy was doing OK but had signs of mild frostbite.
Bremigen also commended the Sunbury Fire Department. Assistant Fire Chief Jay Long deployed about 10 firefighters to walk the streets and enter a wooded section behind the former Sunbury UPMC Community Hospital, after drone footage showed there could have possibly been someone sitting in a grass area.
Bremigen also thanked nearby neighbors who responded with coffee and video surveillance footage from the area which captioned the child walking. Bremigen said thanks to the footage and the manpower at that late of an hour, police were able to keep a radius while they searched.
