After a week of freezing temperatures across Florida last week and frost Sunday in some areas, the question now is what can Florida residents expect this week.
That depends on where you are, but the Florida Division of Emergency Management is warning there’s a medium threat for wildfires across Northeast Florida and the interior portions of the Florida peninsula.
In the Panhandle, it’s going to be a cold, rainy day and “temperatures will not budge out of the 40s,” the National Weather Service Tallahassee said.

When is Florida wildfire season?
Drought conditions in Florida as of Jan. 13, 2025.
“Florida’s wildfire season goes year-round, but it peaks during late spring as most of Florida is ending the dry season, likely with plenty of dry vegetation available,” the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network said.
While recent rains, including today in some areas, “have made a small dent in some areas where the drought was worsening, especially across South Florida,” overall, conditions are dry.
➤ Live updates: Winds poised to intensify, complicating LA wildfire battle
“The Panhandle and North Florida continue to experience the broadest swath of moderate drought. Even with the fronts, prolific with rainfall in recent weeks, the drought is holding tight.”
The U.S. Drought Monitor shows almost 61 percent of Florida is abnormally dry, while 29 percent of the state — in portions of the Panhandle and North Florida — is under moderate drought.
Get ready for another cold front to move through the area Monday, Jan. 13.
A cold rain was forecast Sunday night, lasting into early Monday morning, bringing 1 to 2″ of rain across coastal counties. Some areas near the coast could see near 3 inches, the National Weather Service Mobile said.
Expect cooler, drier air after the front moves through.
Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the lower to mid 50s. Lows tonight range from the mid 20s well inland to the mid 30s near the coast, and apparent temperature values get close to cold weather advisory criteria of 20 degrees or less over interior areas and 25 or less for southern portions of the area, the National Weather Service Mobile said.
