Saturday marks the beginning of several services for former President Jimmy Carter who died this week at age 100, with a state funeral scheduled to take place at several locations in Georgia.
Saturday’s celebration of Carter’s life will begin about 10:30 a.m., with a motorcade that will carry the former president’s remains from Phoebe Sumter Medical Center through his hometown, Plains, Georgia, with a brief pause in front of the family’s farm. Following a salute from the National Parks Service, Carter’s remains are scheduled to travel to Atlanta for a funeral service Saturday afternoon.
Next week, Carter’s remains will be brought to the Washington National Cathedral for a national funeral service at 10 a.m. In the afternoon, procession will return to Plains where Carter’s remains will be buried alongside his wife’s at their home.
