Water service restored for much of Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Water service was restored for much of Panama City Beach Tuesday about 9 p.m.

Many across the eastern side of PCB were without water after a main water line broke on Monday about 7 p.m. Three schools and multiple businesses had to shut down due to the loss of water pressure.

Utility crews work to restore water pressure in Panama City Beach on Dec. 10.

This prompted the city to issue a boil water advisory which is still in effect as of Wednesday morning.

Utility workers worked on the pipe from Monday night into Tuesday evening. They slowly returned pressure to the system to avoid causing damage to water infrastructure. Schools opened up again on Monday.

Mayor Stuart Tettemer explained that they had received notice of a minor leak on Friday, and they were waiting to get special equipment to make the correct repairs. It turned out to be a much larger issue when a main line burst on Monday.

He went on to express to reporters that he wasn’t concerned about the water infrastructure at large in Panama City Beach, and saw this as a unique incident. Tettemer said they have a suspected cause for the line break but want to be sure before making that information public.

Residents on Facebook described water running across the road around the time of the line break. Between erosion and the crews, a large hole had formed next to a townhome on Astrid Lane on Tuesday.

Affected residents should boil water used for drinking or brushing teeth; however, the water is safe for showers and dishes, according to the city. Readers can see the boil water information page on the city’s website for more info.
