Westland woman, husband kept $1M Powerball win secret for 3 months

A Westland woman and her husband recently kept their big Powerball win a secret from their family for three months.

Catherine Martin, 63, got a call from her husband while she was at work Sept. 5. He told her had checked one of her Powerball tickets and it had won $1 million, according to the Michigan Lottery.

“I was stunned and had a hard time believing him,” she told the Michigan Lottery. “Honestly, I still don’t believe it.”

Her ticket matched the winning numbers drawn Sept. 4 — 7, 10, 21, 33 and 59.

Catherine Martin of Westland recently won $1 million on a Powerball ticket.

“I play Powerball every week and use a special set of numbers,” she said.

She purchased the ticket at MD Westland LLC located at 32919 Cherry Hill Road in Westland, which is a Shell gas station.

Martin and her husband decided to keep the win a secret and surprise their family on Christmas.

She recently claimed her prize and plans to invest and save for retirement and her grandchildren’s’ college funds.
