The combination of soft topcoat of snow atop the denser, packed snow from last week will create some ideal sledding conditions.

Here are some of the best spots in town to break out your toboggan.

Softer sledding slopes at Switchyard, Bryan Park

Switchyard Park (1601 S. Rogers St.) has several small, smooth slopes near the pavilion, ideal for children and beginners.

Bryan Park (1001 S. Henderson St.) has hills on both its northeast (facing Woodlawn Avenue) and northwest (facing Henderson) sides. These hills are longer and more gradual, making it a popular destination for both children and adults in the Elm Heights area.

University Elementary (1111 N. Russell Road) has a small-but-mighty hill west of its basketball courts.

Bloomington’s big hills for sledding

Southeast Park (1600 S. Sycamore Court) is known as one of the more popular sledding destinations. Its longer hill is ideal for picking up speed.

Reverend Ernest D. Butler Park, aka Ninth Street Park (812 W. Ninth St.) is known for its long, cascading hill that provides multiple sledding routes, and is a popular destination on the near-west side. There are some trees near the hill’s bottom to be cautious of.

Batchelor Middle School (900 W. Gordon Pike) has long, decently steep hills – just be wary of the nearby street.
