What to expect from Pueblo weather after 48-degree temperature drop in less than 24 hours

Pueblo experienced a drastic 48-degree temperature change from Sunday to Monday ahead of a cold front expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of snow.

“It’s that time of year,” said Stephen Rodriguez, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Pueblo office. “The Sunday high was 68 degrees in Pueblo and on Monday morning we hit a low of 20 degrees.”

Sunday’s high was 20 degrees above normal.

Rodriguez said a cold front bringing snow started shifting to the south from the Palmer Divide/Colorado Springs area at midday Monday. The snowstorm’s impact on Pueblo was expected to be “minimal,” he said, bringing 1 to 3 inches of accumulation.

“There could be some slick spots on the roads before the snow shifts further south,” Rodriguez said.

Pierre Taylor shovels snow from his driveway on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024. The Pueblo area was expected to get some more snow on Dec. 9, with the forecast calling for between 1 and 3 inches.

Tuesday’s high is expected to hit 40 degrees, so all the snow should melt as Pueblo dries out and gets back to warmer temperatures.

“Wednesday and Thursday we will have near normal temperatures and it will be warming into the weekend,” Rodriguez explained.

Pueblo seeing some wild weather in 2024

It’s been a crazy weather year for Pueblo: Last month, Pueblo realized a record-high November precipitation total of 2.51 inches, breaking a 33-year-old record.

In late September and early October, Pueblo hit three record-breaking high temperatures, plus there were 19 summer days that hit 100 degrees or higher, including Aug. 17 when the 102-degree high shattered a 51-year-old record.
