What’s the next holiday? See all federal holidays for 2025

The second federal holiday of 2025 is quickly approaching and you may be wondering when all 11 federal holidays are taking place this year and what that means for you.

Here’s what to know.

When are 2025’s federal holidays?

Now that New Year’s Day has passed, there are 10 more days throughout 2025 designated as federal holidays. Here’s a rundown of each one and when it is:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Monday, Jan. 20

  • Presidents’ Day: Monday, Feb. 17

  • Memorial Day: Monday, May 26

  • Juneteenth: Thursday, June 19

  • Independence Day: Friday, July 4

  • Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 1

  • Columbus Day: Monday, Oct. 13

  • Veterans Day: Tuesday, Nov. 11

  • Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, Nov. 27

  • Christmas Day: Thursday, Dec. 25

During years where a new president is being inaugurated, there are typically 12 federal holidays for federal workers in the Washington D.C. area but since Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day both fall on the same date in 2025 — Monday, Jan. 20 — they’ll have one fewer holiday this year than in some previous years.

Are banks open on federal holidays?

Banks generally close on the same days as the Federal Reserve, which follows the federal holiday schedule above in 2025, according to Business Insider. Online bank transactions also aren’t typically processed on federal holidays.

However, ATMs are often available for those who need to deposit or withdraw money on federal holidays.

Is mail delivered on federal holidays? Is the Post Office open?

The United States Post Office is also closed on all federal holidays in 2025 and does not deliver regular mail on those days.

The Post Office does still deliver items sent through Priority Mail Express on federal holidays, however. And customers can still “order stamps, print shipping labels, order boxes and other mail supplies, and request package pickups” on USPS.com during federal holidays, according to AARP.
