Who should be The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week for Dec. 9-12?

The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week poll for the week of Dec. 9 is now live.

The nominations for The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week contest are in and polls are open to vote for the best of the best starting now.

The Oklahoman asked superintendents, principals, teachers, and guidance counselors from across the Oklahoma City area to participate in the Student of the Week program by sending nominations for their student.

Readers will now pick the best of the best in our poll. This week’s poll has four candidates.

The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week poll is at the bottom of the list of nominees. You can vote once per hour until it closes.

Last week’s winner: Ruby Thomas is The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week.

Voting is open through noon, Thursday, Dec. 12.

Nominations for next week’s poll are also being accepted through 5 p.m. Thursday. To nominate a student, school faculty can email StudentOfTheWeek@oklahoman.com.

Here are the nominees for this week’s poll:

  • Charlie Acuna, Oklahoma Christian School: Acuna, a junior, is an honor student who challenges himself academically by taking AP classes. While maintaining an exceptional GPA he is a very dedicated member of the drama team where he holds key roles in different productions throughout the year. His drama teacher Mrs. Dana Lorg said “Charlie came in clutch for One Act, joining one week before Regionals. He memorized all of his lines and became a perfect fit for the cast. I will forever be grateful for him. And he’s kind, funny, and gives 100% at all times”.

  • Georgia Harjo, Southeast High School: Harjo, a senior, is an AP/honors student who has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 19th in her class. She is a well rounded student, involved in the advanced dance program, Esports team and National Honor Society. She is also a reporter for the student news program. In addition excellent academics, she has been instrumental in starting, organizing and running the Native American Club. She is an active member of her tribe and has been named Miss Indian Oklahoma, Oklahoma Indian Student of the Year and selected to be a news anchor for the Unity News. She takes pride and has a true sense of responsibility to help advance the Native American culture in her school and community.

  • Emanuel Escobedo, Purcell High School: Escobedo, a senior, excels academically and currently ranks 5th overall with a GPA of 4.24. He is student council secretary and treasurer of the Spanish club. He is a 4 year Letter P recipient and member of the superintendent’s honor roll and the Oklahoma Honor Society. He excels in the classroom favoring AP Physics and Calculus. “Emanuel is a talented young man who has a great sense of humor and always has a smile on his face. He is kind and gracious to everyone he encounters. He is the type of kid who adds positivity to our overall school culture. He also is a talented rapper and won our school talent show with one of his original raps,” said Principal Jason Sanders.

  • Quincy Jones, John Marshall Enterprise High School: Jones excels academically as the top male student in his class, boasting a remarkable 4.0 GPA. Beyond academics, he is a three-sport athlete, participating in football, track, and wrestling. Outside of sports and studies, his creative passions shine through his dedication to photography and videography. He captures photos and dynamic videos for various sports teams at the school. After high school, he plans to attend college out of state to study mechanical engineering and has aspirations of using his skills to open his own media company.
