Each week the Clarion Ledger highlights the achievements of outstanding local high school students. Out of five nominees, there can only be one Jackson Metro Student of the Week.

The votes are in.

With 61% of the votes, Roelmer Matias of Canton High School is the Clarion Ledger’s Jackson Metro Student of the Week for Dec. 15-21.

Matias was also a nominee for Student of the Week Sept. 15-21.

A junior at Canton High School, Matias displays his growth mindset through his hard work, persistence and his ability to balance his schoolwork, serving as kicker on the school’s football team and because of the genuine kindness and respect he shows his peers and teachers.

Matias has also earned several honors certificates during his time at Canton High School and plays for the school’s soccer team.
