Wilson named vice chair of legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus

Norwich — Second-term state Rep. Derell Wilson, D-Norwich, has been elected as vice chairman of the Legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus for the 2025 session.

State Rep. Antonio Felipe, D-Bridgeport, was elected chairman of the caucus that was formed in 1976 to promote and assist minorities in becoming more actively involved in the political process and running for office. The caucus also works to help raise the economic potential of minorities and their roles in their communities.

“It is a privilege to serve in this Caucus and this role next to our new Chair, Antonio Felipe,” Wilson said in a news release announcing his election to the leadership position. “The BPRC is one of the most influential bodies in the legislature, and has a responsibility to serve, support, and represent minorities in Connecticut, and ensure that any social or economic impact to them and their communities are beneficial.”

Wilson is vice chair of the Labor and Public Employees Committee and serves on the Joint Committee on Judiciary and the Finance, Revenue & Bonding committee.
