Winter Storm Blair blares through Tri-County

Jan. 7—TRI-COUNTY — A winter storm swept through the commonwealth Sunday, but the Tri-County area experienced milder conditions compared to other communities.

While some areas of Kentucky faced significant snowfall from Winter Storm Blair, the Tri-County saw more rain than snow, with slightly higher snow amounts reported in Laurel County. Still, it was enough for most school districts to cancel in-person classes and for many businesses to close or adjust their operating hours.

According to Dustin Jordan, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Jackson, temperatures in the region were similar throughout the Tri-County.

London temperatures hit 42°F by 8 a.m. Monday, with 1.32 inches of precipitation recorded at the London-Corbin Airport.

Barbourville received 1.65 inches of precipitation, with temperatures hitting 42°F by 7 a.m.

Williamsburg reported similar conditions to the other two cities, with a temperature of 41°F at 8 a.m., though no official precipitation totals were available at press time.

The mix of rain and snow created hazardous road conditions across the area. Jordan predicted additional snowfall Monday night with accumulations of up to half an inch or less, creating more icy conditions for drivers on Tuesday as temperatures stay below freezing.

Residents are encouraged to remain cautious on slick roads and stay informed about upcoming weather changes.
