Woman charged after boyfriend found dead inside NW Albuquerque apartment

Jan. 6—A woman is accused of killing her boyfriend during a fight inside a Northwest Albuquerque apartment Monday.

Celeste Al-Asady, 44, of Albuquerque is charged with an open count of murder.

Al-Asady was taken to a local hospital to be treated for alcohol withdrawal. She will be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center after she is released, Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said.

Police are not revealing the man’s identity because his next of kin has not been notified, Gallegos said.

At about 7:30 a.m. Monday, officers received a call of a man dead inside an apartment in the 6000 block of Avalon, near 60th and Central.

When officers arrived, police found the man in a pool of blood. Police then spoke with a woman covered in blood — later identified as Al-Asady — who told them after she checked on him and found him unresponsive, she poured water on him. She also told police she moved a small pocket knife from next to his body to a nearby table, according to a criminal complaint filed at Metropolitan Court.

Al-Asady’s mother told police she heard Al-Asady argue with her boyfriend before kicking him out of the apartment. The mother said Al-Asady told him to be with another woman “who she knew he wanted to be with” before adding that Al-Asady had drank a “large amount of alcohol” the night before the incident, police said.

Al-Asady’s sister told police Al-Asady would have hallucinations whenever she drank and Al-Asady had a history of being violent toward her mother and sister, according to the complaint.

A neighbor told police Al-Asady and her boyfriend fought so much the previous two days the neighbor believed they “were going to break through the wall,” police said.

Detectives said they found Al-Asady with a cut on her right hand and a “pronounced gap” between two toes that were consistent with a bloody footprint found on the stairs inside the man’s apartment.
