Woman firing shots from vehicle in Muscatine dies in collision during police pursuit

A woman chased by Muscatine police and other agencies after she drove through the city on Sunday shooting at people died when her vehicle collided head on with another, police said.

Police said in a news release they received multiple reports about shots being fired from a car about 3:15 p.m. It said they located the vehicle but that the woman, who was not named, refused to yield, so they pursued her out of the city.

Other departments picked up the pursuit as the woman drove west on U.S. 218. The release said she drove into oncoming traffic and eventually hit the other vehicle, resulting in her death.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash, police said, and another that occurred when a Muscatine officer who was part of the pursuit lost control of his car and crashed near the Cedar River. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, the release said.

Police did not say whether anyone in the car the woman collided with was hurt.

The release said no one was injured by the shots she fired and that the reports were being investigated.
