Woman’s ‘genius’ gardening hack leaves Aussies impressed: ‘Onto something’

Houseproud Aussies will know all too well that the journey to achieve pristine, green grass is long and costly. Any tip or trick is welcome along the road to attaining a lush green lawn and one woman’s gardening hack has definitely raised eyebrows.

This week the woman showcased her unorthodox approach to lawn care by marching along the grass wearing her secret weapon — a pair of high heels to aerate the soil.

After the footage was posted online, thousands were left impressed by the woman’s lawn care method and one Aussie even called her a “genius”.

Horticulturalist Steven from Zani’s Gardening told Yahoo News Australia that while he’s “never heard of” her approach, he couldn’t knock it.

“It would aerate the soil and potentially spread grass seeds to other areas of the garden.” he said. “You know I actually think she might be onto something.”

In footage posted to social media, a man is heard asking her “What the f**ck are you doing?” to which she replies, “aerating the grass.” With a beer in one hand, she dug the pointy heel into the grass and worked around the lawn in an orderly fashion. “I don’t like these heels,” she remarked.

The woman had parked a small boat on the patch of grass for over a year and since then, the lawn’s condition deteriorated. However, it does appear the high-heel hack is slowly helping to bring it back to life.

Aeration essentially helps the lawn’s roots to breathe, ensuring it can take in air, nutrients and water. This in turn helps the roots to grow deeply and produce a more robust lawn.

Aussies were left stumped by her innovative hack.

“[This is the] best way to aerate the grass, you are awesome,” one woman said, while another explained her male neighbour had figured out this hack a long time ago. “My 70-year-old neighbour as a kid did this! He’d buy heels from the salvos and go at it.”

The woman later gave an update on her lawn and was delighted to announce there was some new grass patches sprouting after only a few days.

“I went away for a day, two days, that’s new, that’s new, look!” she exclaimed, back at her with the heels on her feet.
