Worcester Community Veterinary Hospital is closed following a fire

WORCESTER ― Worcester Community Veterinary Hospital, owned and operating by Second Chance Animal Services, is temporarily closed following a small fire.

The organization said the fire was due to an “external issue originating outside the building.”

Now, Second Chance is working to provide care for Worcester-based customers and their animals at other locations, including animal hospitals in Southbridge, North Brookfield and Springfield. There is no definitive timeline as to when the Worcester location, at 831 Main St., might reopen.

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of everyone who relies on our Worcester hospital,” said Sheryl Blancato, CEO of Second Chance Animal Services, in a statement. “We are deeply grateful for the patience and support of our community as we navigate this challenge together.”

Second Chance Animal Services was founded in 1999 as a nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Central Massachusetts. Last week, the organization said it had helped over 55,000 pets so far this year, a record.

The organization said while insurance will cover some of the fire damage, it is asking for financial help from the community.

It promises that all donations will go directly to the facility’s recovery and reopening efforts. Checks can also be mailed to Second Chance – Worcester Restoration, 111 Young Road, East Brookfield 01515.
