About 200 students from local Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) programs will face off Friday at their annual high school Regional Career Development Conference.
Hosted by the Western Indiana Workforce Development Board, the event will take place at Ivy Tech’s main campus in Terre Haute.
It will provide an opportunity for students to use skills they have been learning during the school year through their specialized JAG national curriculum.
Individual events include employability skills, career presentations, prepared speaking, creative decision making and outstanding senior. There are also several group competitions such as business plan, commercial and project based learning.
The experience and lessons learned in the JAG program will provide the students with the tools and connections necessary to succeed after high school, he said.
Local employers and community leaders volunteer their time and will serve as judges for the event. The first place winners in each competition will represent Region 7 at the state competition in March.
The Western Indiana Workforce Development Board sponsors the 12 high school JAG programs in Region 7.
Currently, there are JAG programs at Cloverdale, Greencastle, North Putnam (2), Northview, Riverton Parke, South Putnam, South Vermillion, Sullivan, Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South and West Vigo High Schools.
