Ready to hear the eerie-sounding holiday songs played on an old factory steam whistle?
The York Factory Whistle Concert will be held again this year in the early morning hours of Christmas Day, according to a news release.
The 25-minute concert will begin at 12:10 a.m. on Dec. 25.
This year will mark whistle maestro Don Ryan’s 70th anniversary of performing the concert, the release states.
He will be assisted by two apprentices: Nicholas Curry and Dr. Jon Moyer, both music teachers for the Central York School District, the release states. They are learning how to play the variable-pitched whistle.
The factory whistle concert has been a tradition in the City of York since 1889. It often can be heard for miles into the countryside.

How to hear the York Factory Whistle Concert
The whistle concert is held at 240 Arch Street in York, the release states.
Listeners who wish to tailgate for the concert can park in the North Queen Street parking lot of the baseball stadium, known as WellSpan Park.
People from around the world also will be able to watch the concert at the website yorkpafactorywhistle.com, on Facebook at York Factory Whistle or through the Factory Whistle Master app. The streaming starts at midnight.
When the York Factory Whistle practices will be held
Anyone who is downtown shopping for the holidays will get to hear the practices on the weekend.
Two practices are planned for the whistle concert:

The event is made possible by The Engineering Society of York, York Factory Whistle Concert Committee, York County Community Foundation, 240 Arch, United Rentals, The York Water Company, IWM International LLC. Dream FX and CPR-Now, The First Responder Team, the release states.
