PETERSBURG — You are invited to participate in Petersburg National Battlefield’s Wreaths Across America ceremony at Poplar Grove National Cemetery in Dinwiddie. This brief ceremony, which begins at noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, honors America’s armed forces with a presentation of colors, the national anthem and laying of wreaths. Attendees are invited to assist placing wreaths on graves.
Parking is available only at Richard Bland College located at 11301 Johnson Road in Prince George. There will be a free shuttle bus to and from the cemetery starting at 10:45 a.m. and will run every 15 minutes. The last pick-up will be at approximately 11:45 a.m. Those with mobility issues are allowed to park at the cemetery located at 8005 Vaughan Road in Dinwiddie. Wreaths Across America’s mission is to place wreaths on the graves of military service members buried in national cemeteries. There will also be ceremonies that take place at noon on Dec. 14 at City Point National Cemetery in Hopewell, Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum in Prince George and Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.
